The Internal Revenue Service has advised taxpayers not to plan on getting a 2022 tax refund "by a certain date" since some submissions may need "extra examination," which might cause a delay in the procedure.
In general, electronically completing a faultless return and receiving payment via direct deposit will result in a quicker refund. But, the government warned that errors and other problems, such identity theft, could delay your reimbursement.
According to the IRS, reimbursements for tax filers who claimed the earned income tax credit or the child tax credit won't arrive until mid-February.
The IRS announced that as of Nov. 18, there were 3.4 million unprocessed individual returns received in 2022, which included files for earlier tax years. These pending returns consist of 1.7 million paper files and 1.7 million returns that need to have errors fixed or other special handling.
To reduce the backlog and enhance customer service, the agency has employed more employees in anticipation of the forthcoming tax season and aims to add more. These initiatives are a part of a larger strategy for agency changes, including almost $80 billion in financing from the IRS over the following ten years.
